Differences and Selection of SCI and SCE in Color Difference Meters

What are the differences between the SCI and SCE optical structures in the color difference meter, the differences in applications, and how should customers choose?

Differences:

1. Measurement principle: The SCI mode measures including the specular reflection light of the object, which can reflect the overall color of the object including the glossiness; the SCE mode excludes the specular reflection light and only measures the color corresponding to the diffuse reflection light.

2. Measurement results: The measurement results of SCI usually are closer to the perception of the overall appearance of the object by the human eye; the measurement results of SCE are more focused on the inherent color of the object itself.

Application differences:

1. For high-gloss surfaces, such as automotive paint, polished metals, etc., the SCI mode can evaluate its color and appearance more comprehensively.

2. For low-gloss or non-gloss materials such as textiles and paper, the SCE mode can more accurately reflect their true colors.

Customer selection suggestions:

1. If customers focus on the overall visual effect of the product, including gloss and color, the SCI mode should be preferred.

2. If customers mainly focus on the color of the material itself, unaffected by gloss, the SCE mode is more appropriate.

3. For some situations that require understanding both the overall and inherent colors of the material, the two modes can be used respectively for measurement and comparison.
